visa for internship

My son was offered an internship in China and his F type visa had been denied. Is F the right type? Is there a limit to the number of days an F type will be granted?

Dave, does his employer pay for this internship? If so, F may not be the right type. Instead, he should apply for the work Z type. Normally speaking, F type allows a stay for not more than 90 days.

Thank you for the reply. He is only getting paid a stipend for food, 80 rmb or about $13 US per day. He was told Z type requires a work permit which is only issued to people with bachelor's degree. He is currently working toward bachelor's.

Then I think he can apply for the F type. You can try to inquire the reason for being rejected at the embassy. However, they may not tell you.

I am in the exact same position....just had my F type for an internship declined. My company says a work visa takes too long to obtain, so the M (business) type seems to be the only option.

My son could not get an M type either, he won't be able to go to China. He was told China is not granting an visas for internships because people from other countries are entering as interns and then staying and working.
