why would some one make this fake soliders to protect them if ther do not alive?

Well, as far as I know, there are mainly two reasons.
1. Large number of soliders and strong army embody supreme power and social position in Chinese tranditional culture. So he wanted to show his importance.
2. He believed human beings had afterlives and that these terracotta warriors can protect him in his afterlife.2
