Apart from the invitation letter, you should prepare these documents.
1. completed application form with a recent passport photo.
2. copies of your passport information page and previous entry records (if any)
3. travel itinerary and an explanation letter (including where you are going, who invites you, the inviter's name, address, phone number, your company name, address, post and income)
4. recent six months bank statement.

After getting these documents, you can submit them to Chinese embassy in your country.
