About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Question regarding customs upon departure.

Please advice: If I received the transit visa upon arrival by showing an active ticket to the third country, do they check upon departure if I really travel there? Because I might come back home, because my wife is pregnant and I need to cancel the following trip. How does the departure customs officers work?

John, I think the officers won't check whether you departed for the third country, but you have to show them a flight ticket with confirmed seat and date when applying for the free transit.

There is a rule, that if you dont go to the third country, how it was planned- you will pay penalty aprox 80 USD per every day you did stay in Beiging. even if your reason is very emergent. Also more obvious they will make a record that you broke the rule (traveling to the third country) in your profile and will not give you such transit type. You will get lucky by not having such record.
If you need to come back to your country of departure- better buy a ticket to Hong Kong and from there back to your country. Good luck!
