hi, am i able to obtain a visa on through my wife's passport?

Question

I want to travel to china with my wife to visit her family (Father who is a Chinese citizen) . She has family in China. her Father is a Chinese citizen but myself and my wife are South African. I have read through the above post and it seem as though we would need to apply for one of the S types but we are not certain which one. We are wanting to go up for 180 days and get a multi type. Would this be possible and what would we need to submit to the embassy?

Dean, according to your description, I think you should apply for a Q1 type for both of you. Yes, the Q1 type is for a single entry and valid for 30 days. However, you can change it into a temporary residence permit within 30 days after you enter China so that you can travel freely to China within the validity of the residence permit.You should submit the following documents: a valid passport, a photocopy of the passport, a filled application form, a color bare-headed photo taken within six months, an invitation from your father-in-law, a copy of his ID card, and the original and photocopy of your kinship certificate.
