Cancer/fire rabbit and Aries metal rooster are we comparable?

As we've been drawn to each other intensly for around 8 years

Well, the zodiac shows that you are not compatible. You have different values about life and different life style. So it is hard for you to have common words and real communication. If you have been drawn for this for about 8 years, you should think about it seriously whether it is necessary to be together anymore.
