I intend to attain a Chinese visa but I am not sure what Round-trip air ticket booking record means.

I am going to book the flight on my own which means there is not travel agency to "hold" the tickets for me. So what can I use to submit as booking record?

Thanks for your help!

Kay, round-trip air ticket booking record means the printed copy of your ticket orders or E-tickets. You can use it to submit as the booking record.

By the way, are you a Singaporean passport holder? As you mentioned the round-trip air tikets, I suppose you are applying for the L type. If so, then you do not need the entry permit as long as your stay in mainland not beyond 15 days.
