residence permit to tourist visa

what should i do if i want to stay longer in china after my residence permit is over?can i apply for L type without leaving after i finish my study here?

Yes, it's feasible to do so at the local Exit and Entry Administration Bureau. However, the officer may only give you a one-month L type. After the L type expires, you have to leave China.
