Bonnie, the socket is different. You just need to buy an adaptor. Please don't worry if you can't find one in your country. You can easily find it from the Chinese super-markets.1

Lee, It is that complicated! I asked myself the same question at one time, but now, having one in the flesh, it really is not as simple as I had hoped. The thing contains a microcontroller, and some not-so-simple electronics, so the whole control board is upset by trying to operate on half of the normal operating voltage. I'm in the process of tracing out the circuit board, so I can determine what I have to do to make it operational here in the U.S. Thanks for your suggestions.0
