Cruise to Shanghai & Tianjin - 72 hours free visa

If I cruise from Hong Kong to Shanghai (one day) & then continue the cruise & disembark in Tianjin & take a flight back to Australia in the next day. Do I qualify for the 72 hours free transit?

Della, as you are travelling by cruise, you do not qualify for the 72 hour free transit, but if your stay is not more than 24 hours (count from the following midnight after your arrival), you can avail yourself of the 24 hour direct tansit policy. However, if the layover is beyond 24 hours, I'm afraid you have to apply for a double-entry G type permit in advance.
