I think you should use your British passport to apply for a M type from the CVASC branch in Mumbai. All required documents are:
1. passport
2. filled application form
3. a recent passport photo
4. invitation letter from your trade partner
5. introduction letter for yourself including where you go, name of the inviter, address and contact information
6. legal stay proof in India, such as valid resident permit. If you hold short-term visa for India, you should get a certification from your embassy in India.
Address of the CVASC: 1st Floor, Express Towers, Nariman Point, Mumbai.
Business Hours:Monday-Friday，Closed on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays.
Submission of applications: 9:00 to 14:00.
Payment and collection: 14:00 to 17:00.
