About:Beijing Great Wall

Which section to visit - Mutianya, Simatai or Jinshanling?

Hi. I'm visiting Beijing next month and intend to climb The Great Wall. Which section is recommended - Mutianya, Simatai or Jinshanling? I'm not keen on Badaling, since it's too touristy and likely to be crowded. Also, may I know how's the weather like by then? Thanks in advance.

Bobo, the weather condition in April is good. The average temperature is from 8 to 20 Celsius degrees. You can wear thin jeans, long sleeved T-shirt and jacket to climb the wall. By the way, a pair of comfortable sports shoes is much better.

In fact, these three sections are all good. If you prefer to see original wall, I would suggest Jinshanling or Simatai. Considering of the transportation means, Jinshanling is better. You can take subway line 13 or 15 to Wangjingxi station. Get out at Exit D if you take subway line 13 or Exit C by subyway line 15. Then you can cross the road to find the bus station. There you can take special line to visit the wall. It departs at 08:00 and gets back at 15:00. A ticket costs CNY 32. If you have Beijing Transportation Card, it's CNY20.6.

If you don't catch the special line, you may take public bus from Wangjingxi to Luan Ping at the same place and get off at Jinshanling Highway Rest Area. There you can take free shuttle bus to the scenic area.

Then I think you should visit Mutianyu. You can take no.916 bus from Dongzhimen and get off at Huairou North Street. Then you can change bus for Shayu or Tongtai to get off at Mutianyu Roundabout. There you can buy the entrance ticket and take shuttle bus to the entrance of the scenic area. Or you can take no.867 bus that departs at 10:00 and 12:00 from Dongzhimen to Mutianyu Roundabout directly.
