About:Chinese Embassy in U.K.

Is there a check list of all required documentation?

Is there a check list of all required documentation? (As far as I have read he only needs a valid passport, and to fill in the form linked above, a recent photo.)
My boyfriend is a UK citizen. I am an American teacher here in Foshan. He is looking to visit for 1 week in May. He will travel on an L type. How soon can he apply for it? Does he need a letter of invitation? --If so what all information should that include? My employer can write it-- he is a chinese national. Also, would it be best if he got the L type first, or book the flight first?

Hi Cassie!

Check list for all required documents:
1. A passport with at least six months' validity and two blank page;
2. A completely filled application pasted with his recent photo;
3. An invitation letter from you or your employer / round-trip tickets and hotel reservations.

The normal process takes four working days, but if he wants it to be faster, he can apply for express service with additional fees. He can either submit the invitation letter or itinerary proofs, but I suggest him provide the letter.

The letter should contain:
A. Information on your bf (full name, gender, date of birth, etc.)
B. Information on the planned visit (purpose of visit, arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited, relations between him and the inviting individual, financial source for expenditures)
C. Information on the inviting individual (name, contact telephone number, address, signature) .

I think it's better to get the L type first because by doing so his visit will be not too restricted.

Bob,

Thanks so much for the answer that clears a lot up.
I have one question though.
You suggest getting the L Type first?
Doesn't he need to specify his flight information in order to fill in accurate dates? I would think that would not be possible unless he booked a flight first? Thank you again very much for your answer!!!

Cassie, as you can provide him the invitation letter, the flight tickets are not required for submission. You can just put a rough scheduled date in the blanks on the form.

Cassie, you are suggested to apply around one month in advance before your departure. So you should apply in April.
