I saw the most entertaining event at the local Chinese grocery store 2/21/15 in Chandler, Arizona USA (Lee Lee's)... There were about 25 kids dressed up in red or gold costumes, and they did a two-team competition with these huge Dragon heads, but only two people were under the Dragon's cloak, not a string of people... Lots of fireworks... I couldn't hear myself scream/cheering! and then the other kids were beating drums, tambourines.. anything noisy... and the Dragons "played" at kicking each other/fighting until there was a competition to see who could knock off the pinata-type envelopes hanging about 15 feet in the air. That meant a couple of those kids had to stand on someone's shoulders under the Dragon costume... all cute... I felt very lucky to have happened across the ceremony after doing my grocery shopping, as it certainly scared away any bad spirits for the year for me with all those fireworks popping! Unfortunately, I had to leave, but the Dragons and crowd paraded into the grocery store to continue the festivities. Happy Chinese New Year!
