About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hi, I will fly to Taipei from Istanbul via Beijing.
I will have 4 to 5 hours at Beijing airport, am I allowed to go out and meet my friends at the airport then back to board my onward flights to Taipei ?
I am traveling with Australian passport
