Length of time my passport has to be valid to get a visa?

My passport expires in October of 2015. I am going to China at the end of March in 2015. Do I need to renew my passport before I go or is 6 months long enough to apply?

Rena, you needn't renew your passport. If you go in March, you should apply around a month in advance. And your passport is valid more than six months. It's ok for you to use it for your application.
