china visa process for american citizen living in kuala lumpur malaysia

We are schedule to visit china on holiday with Viking River cruises on April 27 - May 9, 2015. How do I go about getting one in Kuala Lumpur for this trip?? Thank you.

If you have valid resident permi in Malaysia, I think you can directly apply for the appropriate type from the CVASC branches in Malaysia. I don't know how many times you will enter and stay in mainland China. If you just transit for one time, then I think a single entry G or L type is ok.
