In Chinese big cities like the three you mentioned, it is very easy to travel although you don't speak Chinese. They have many English signages in the public areas. In train station, subway stations and airport, English broadcasting is even available. When you have any problem, ask a young Chinese people and he or she can help you for good. Just relax!

I can think of 3 or 4 places you might have a problem
1 - Buses; write down your destination in Chinese and ask people waiting at the bus stop for help
2 - Taxis; also write down your destination in Chinese and show the driver
3 - restaurants - but most have photos of the dishes

You can buy a [cheap] electronic dictionary which can be helpful
