In order to enjoy the free transit, you need to present your passport and onward tickets at the airport. BTW, to go out the airport, you need to apply for a temporary stay permit at the airport.

Thank you Lydia. Is there a certain area in the airport where we would obtain this temporary stay permit?

Hi D. Pereira - We haven't gone yet. Our trip is the end of February beginning of March. I did call the Chinese Embassy in DC and they told me I just request the Direct Transit when I go through customs

Thank you Dinuka! Would love to know how it all worked out and what the process was once you got to customs/immigration.
