According to the embassy, your old passport is required when you apply for Chinese visa. Do you have any copy of your old passport? It might work when you apply. If not, please contact Chinese embassy or consulate what other documents are needed when you submit your application. By the way, there is no chance that you will have another new one because you already become an American.
