About:Chinese Marriage

What is expected of brides parents.

My Canadian daughter is marrying a nice young man that lives in Canada but.. is from China. We will be having two celebrations...one in China that his family is paying for and one in Canada that we are paying for. Do we need to buy gifts for his family when we come to China. My daughter has suggested buying her fiancé a gold chain to signify our approval of him. His Mother bought her a lovely jade necklace upon her recent visit to meet them. Any suggestions would be helpful.

You can buy something for his family to show your sincerity and blessing to the new couple as well as his family. The gift doesn’t need to be very expensive.
