Nancy, passengers are allowed to bring no more than 50g gold in or out of China. In your case, you need to get a permit from People's Bank of China first. Then you need to declare your gold when you exit and pay the tax.

hi Robin, We asked for such a permit, but they didn't understand what we were talking about. Is there a particular name for it? Also, are there additional limits to carry more than 50g if we are leaving the country for good?
