Landing on the New Year (19th Feb 2015)

We are a bunch of students landing in China on the day of the new year. We have to report to local police to file a registartion, as we are to study there for some time, within 24h.
Is it possible to find police stations open during this time? Is it a good or a bad period to arrive?

Robert, do you stay at a Chinese local's home or just at the hotels? If you stay at the hotels, you needn't go to register at local police station because the hotel can do this when you check in. If you stay at a Chinese local's home, you need to report to the police station within 24 hours. Your passport and Chinese local's Household Registration Book are required. And you need to fill a form.

Usually there are police who are on duty during the holidays. So I think you can register successfully. If possible, ask the locals to help you with this because the police may not speak English.
