Looking for the name of a noodle soup dish

When I visited Xian in 2000, we stopped into a restaurant that served a soup noodle dish with meat. Front what I remember, at the front of the restaurant, there was a huge pot where they were cooking the noodles. One woman put a bunch of spices in our bowl before filling it with broth, noodles and some kind of meat. Then they handed us a raw bulb of garlic, which we saw others biting into as they ate the soup.

Does this dish sound familiar to anyone? We are traveling back to Xian in April and would like to know the name of the dish or locations of restaurants where it is served. It was so delicious.

Thanks for your help.

Hi, I am a native girl. It is not Yangrou Paomo. From your description, it seems like Sao Zi Mian (臊子面). I don't go to the street for long, so am not very sure which restaurant has the noodles. But you can find it by the Chinese characters. And I have to remind you that it has been many years since your last visit, the restaurant you mentioned may have closed. Anyway, good luck and welcome to my city.
