About:China Green Card (Permanent Residence Permit)

Residence Permit for child

i am married to a Chinese for 2 years +, if we want to apply for Residence Permit for our child, who is a Malaysian like me, he is 2 years old now, what need to be done?

Brenda, you can apply for Q1 type for your son. Except the passport, application form and a recent six months passport, an invitation letter from your Chinese wife, a copy of her Chinese ID card and your son's birth certificate is required. Please remember to change the Q1 type to a temporary resident permit within 30days when he arrives in China.

thanks for your reply. Actually i am the wife and my husband is the Chinese. Now my son and i both have L types, we will travel to China in Jan 2015 to meet my husband, we are allow to stay for 30 days after entry into China. i do not have residence permit yet. my question is : can we both apply for the temporary resident permit within 30 days stay in China?

i was understood that i need to have our marriage certificate authenticated in China embassy in Malaysia to apply for the residence permit.

How about my son? Does the birth certificate need to be authenticated in China embassy too?

Well, it isn't required to provide authenticated versions of your marriage certificate and your child's birth certificate when you apply for the Q1 type, according to what I know. However, authenticated versions might be required when you change Q1 into a temporary resident permits. You'd better confirm this Chinese embassy in your country.

If you were told that your marriage certificate needs to be authenticated by Chinese embassy, then your son's birth certificate should be authenticated too.
