About:Apply for China Visa in a Third Country

I have two citizenships, which should I use to get a visa?

I am an American and Australian citizen, living in the US. It's much cheaper and less restrictive to get it in my Australian passport, but I'm not sure if the Chinese consulate will be willing to do that. Does anyone know? Also, because I can't personally travel to the Chinese consulate in NYC, I'll be sending a proxy. Does that introduce any problems?

Since you live in USA, you are suggested to apply with your Amercian passport. In this way, it is easier to get. There is no problem by applying through a proxy. Remember to find a reliable one.

I finally got an answer for the application in NYC. For anyone else in this position it's this: you must have a valid entry permit for the country you are applying from in order to get a Chinese permit (and, probably, any visa) in a passport from a third country. Since I don't have a US permit in my Australian passport (because I have a US passport), I have to use the US passport for the Chinese one.
