About:Chinese Embassy in U.K.

I am visiting Shanghai, HK and Sanya-Hainan on cruise, is visa needed?

It is needed. You are suggested to apply for a double entry Tourist L for your visiting. Or you can consult your cruise to find a better type for your visiting, since the cruise staff may know this clearly than other people.
