About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I arrive in Shanghai from manila at 17:55 on 24 Dec and leave at 18:05 to Canada, Vancouver.

I have US passport. Can I use 72 hour exemption. I will stay in a hotel in shanghai for 3 days, leave on 12/27.

I couldn't find this information about the count starting at midnight the following day anywhere else, except on this website. I found it for Guangzhou but not Shanghai. Could you tell me where to confirm this info?
