About:China Travel Tips

Hello, I have 15 questions that would help a lot in planning a trip to China. Thanks.

1) Do I book a Visa before I start booking the flights/hotels? (Planning to go next June)

2) How do I apply for a visa? Will I definitely be given one?

3) Do I need to take any vaccinations before I go?

4) Do I have to get money before I go or when out there? If so where can I withdraw money? Any banks that accept Visa Debit Cards?

5) Also, are there any money limitations? Money in and out the country

6) Should I book plane, train and bus tickets before I go? I will be using them to get around within China, not just to fly out there

7) Are taxis safe to use? Any company that are good?

8) Should I give tips or not?

9) Anything to avoid wearing in temples and holy places?

10) Is security in China good? Any places that you would recommend avoiding?

11) Is there wifi throughout China?

12) Do UK sim card/phones work in China or do I need to buy a Chinese sim card? If so where can I get one and do I get it before i go or when Im out there?

13) What is the cost of living? Cheaper than UK?

14) Is there anything I can't do (like drinking alcohol), I will be 18?

15) Finally, after the recent events that have happened in Hong Kong, is it safe to go there?

You need to book the flights and hotels first and then apply visa, because the application needs your hotel and flights bookings.

In general, you need to apply in your country's Chinese embassy. Usually, you can get one, but it is not guaranteed.

Personally speaking, taking any vaccinations are not necessary.

You can only take some cash for traveling and then deposit other moneys on your bank card. Then you can use that card in China. The visa deibt card is available in most places in China.

If you take cash over 5000USD to enter China, you need to declare. There is no limition on the money on your bank account.

You are suggested to book them in advance after you get the visa. Preparing well will bring less troubles when you are in China.

It is safe to use taxi. The taxi company is not the same in different cities, so it is hard to tell.

If you want to, you can give tips. It is not compulsory.

For visiting temples, etc, there is no strict regulations. Just no pants, slippers and vest are OK.

It is very safe to travel in China, even you travel alone. So please do not worry.

In most restaurants and public areas such a airport, train station, the wifi is available and you need to see the signs clearly to see whether it is available. It is not very common in China as that in your country.

The UK sim card may not be used in China and you are suggested to consult the operation company in your country to know. If you travel in China for a long time, you are suggested to buy a Chinese one, for it is cheap. You can buy one at airport directly.

The cost of living is cheaper than that in UK.

It is still safe to visit China mainland and the HK's event did not affect mainland.
