I have a TON of questions about getting a visa for visiting China

Please answer each one to the best of your ability and with as much detail as possible! I would appreciate it a lot!
1. This is my first time getting it to go out of the country and I am getting one to go to China. Do I need to do anything different or special for mine?
2. I live in Evansville, Indiana, so is the Chicago Chinese Embassy the closest one to me to apply to go to China?
3. Do I have to come to the Chinese Embassy in China to apply and get it? Or can I just mail all of the stuff they need from me and they can make it that way?
4. What kind will I need to get if I am just going there to travel and visit my fiance and his family?
5. To apply for it, what kind of forms do I need to fill out and what kind of documents do I need to bring beforehand to finish the application process and get it in the end?
6. What is the fastest amount of time that I can get it made in and returned back to me?
7. How much will I need to pay to get it made and back to me in the shortest amount of time possible and with the longest time on one with multiple entries?
8. What would be the longest time that I can stay in China with the permit that allows me to go for traveling and meeting my fiance and his family?

I think these are all of the questions that I have for now. I would really appreciate and be very thankful if you could answer them all with the best of your ability and knowledge and as soon as you can. Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!

1. For the "different or special to do", what do you mean by this? Personally speaking, you do not need to do anything special, but just follow the documents to prepare.
2. You are right. The consulate in Chicago is the consulate you need to go to apply.
3. You need to go in person for application or apply through an agency. The embassy/consulate does not accept application by mails.
4. A Tourist L is required to apply for your visiting, so you need to prepare your valid passport, an application form, a recent taken photo, an invitation letter from your fiance if you stay with them.
5. You just need to fill an application form which can be download on the official website of Chinese embassy in USA. After submitting the documents, you will get a receipt to collect your passport.
6. Usually, it takes around 4 working days to get it. They provide express service, but you need to apply for that service. The express service takes around 2 to 3 working days.
7. The fee is 140USD per person. The express service charges extra 20USD.
8. For a Tourist L, usually, the duration of stay is around 30 days, but you can apply to stay for 60 or even 90 days. Or you can apply for a multiple entry type valid for half/one year.

Which documents do I need to download and fill out? where can I find them exactly?
Does the invitation from my fiance need to be an actual letter or can it be an email? What does the letter need to look like so it looks professional? How do I apply for the express service?

On the official website of Chinese embassy in USA, you can find a Visa Application Form. pdf (V2013).

It is suggested to prepare an actual letter to avoid troubles. It is no need to make the invitation letter so formal. It can just include your fiance's basic information, your infomation and your visiting purposes. You just need to tell the officer in the embassy/consulate you want to apply for the express service. It is OK.

It mainly includes your fiance's name, contact telephone number, address, signature of your fiance and the work situation.

Is it ok if my fiance sends me an email with a document attached that is like a letter and has all of the information and I just print it out?

It's ok. Printed or faxed invitation letter is accepted. However, sometimes the embassy might ask for the original version.

I live in Evansville, IN, so would I be able to apply through an agency here to get a Tourist L type instead of applying in person in Chicago?

You are able to apply through an agency without going directly. However, the embassy has the right to ask you to go to the embassy for an interviewn if they think it necessary. So if possible, you are suggeted to go in person directly.

Is the 2013 Version of the Application Form the online document I need to fill out on the computer before I go into the embassy in Chicago? or are there other documents that I need to fill out that I can't fill out at the embassy?

You need to fill it on the computer and the print it out. Then you can take the paperwork to go to the embassy. This is the only form that you need to fill.
