About:Apply for China Visa in a Third Country

UK Citizen living in Italy want to apply Chinese visa

I'm a UK Citizen living in Italy for a short time. I don't have an Italian residence permit as it is not required by the Italian government since I am here for less than 3 months. The Applicatinon Service Center informed me that I need to get some form of Italian residence permit to apply it.
It there a short term one that I can get for the benefit of the service center? My research tells me that to get one for Italy is a long process and I just found this out recently with less than 4 weeks until my flight

You mean to get a short term resident permit to make application to enter China?
If so, personally speaking, it is hard to get it. The resident permit is issed to those who want to leave in China for a long time. Meanwhile, the resident permit needs to have at least 6 months' validity if people want to make application at the service center.

So you may need to think other methods to apply. You may try to apply one in UK through a local tour agency. It may be easier to get than that in Italy.

It looks like I am being forced to go to the UK just to get a visa even though I have no plans to go there, I am living in Italy legally and the only reason I need this permit is for the benefit of the visa centre. It makes no sense at all, it is not the concern of the Chinese government what is my status in Italy!

Is it possible to apply in France or Germany more easily or is it the same rules?

They do not have the same rules, but it may not be easy to get it in France. The Chinese embassy in France will decide to issue you one by your real situation.

Personally speaking, you are suggested to try to apply one in HK, although I have no idea about whether you plan to go there. I heard many people get it in HK through local tour agency and it is easier to get than in France or in Germany. You are suggested to look around online and contact one in advance. If they can help you, you can have a stopover in HK for the application.
