My air ticket is by China Eastern airline and while going to Osaka (KIX), I have a long layover at Pudong International Airport on 6 Dec'14. I wish to move around Shanghai City to the extent possible. I want to know whether going out of Airport requires Transit Visa (G) to be taken from Chinese Consulate in India, before the trip starts. If answer is no, then please suggest what immigration formalities I would have to complete at the Pudong airport to go to Sanghai City.

I am going to attend two weeks course at KKC, Osaka.
Please suggest.

If your long layover at Pudong airport is less than 24 hours, no Transit G is requried. To leave the airport, you just need to apply for a stay permit to leave when you arrive that the airport. You can only use your valid passport, your onward ticket to Osaka to apply for the stay permit. When passing the immigration, you just need to fill a simple form. It is very easy.
