Visa with criminal history

Hi I have a criminal history, it is dealt with in 2008 but it was for drug charges (stupid stuff when i was in early 20s). I have been told that this may stop me getting one is this correct. Also I am wondering what type to get as I am wanting to enter in Shanghai and then travel to Hong Kong and exit from there back to Australia

Melodi, I think you can try to apply for it though the consular officer has the final say. If you are lucky, you may apply successfully. And you need to apply an appropriate one according to the purpose of your visit to mainland China.
