How to apply for a Chinese visa outside of the UK

Hello. I am a British citizen and will be travelling for nine months from December 2014. My final stop will be mainland China (Hangzhou) in September 2015 - I will be flying there from Vancouver in Canada. I understand it is not possible for me to apply for a permit before December whilst I'm still in the UK, as it's too far in advance and I can't specify the date I wish it was to start from. If this is the case, what would be the best way for me to apply it whilst I am abroad?

You are suggested to apply it around one month in advance. Probably you are in Canada at that time, so you can try to apply it in Canada through the local CVASC. Before you go there, you are suggested to contact the CVASC for confirming.

Or you can choose to have a stop in HK and apply the China mainland one in HK through a local tour agency.
