About:Traveling Cost in China

need help on stay, food and sightseeing in Beijing, Shanghai

Hi, my son is turning 6 this December. and I have planned to bring him to Beijing on a surprise visit. It would be really great if you can tell me how much would it cost for a 12 day vacation (Beijing & Shanghai)... that would include stay, food and sightseeing. Since we are travelling alone, I am looking for a safe and decent place to stay.

Maria, you might make your requirements more specifically. Do you want a 3-star, 4-star or 5-star hotel? What kind of food do you prefer, local snacks or food provided by good restaurants? How many days exactly will you stay in Beijing and Shanghai separately?

Hi, I am looking at a 3 or 4 star hotel. 4 days in Shanghai and 7 days in Beijing.

A 3 or 4 stars hotel costs CNY 300 to 500 per night. If you have no requirement on food, I think CNY 100 to 200 per person everyday is ok. The subway is very convenient in Beijing and Shanghai. If you use the subway, you can save a lot of money. In Beijing, you can transfer among different lines if you pay CNY 2. In Shanghai, the cost might be a bit higher. The maximum cost is about CNY 10. The taxi cost much more money because of the traffic jams. Of course, you might spare some money for buying things in these two places. I think you can calculate how much money you should bring now.

I have managed my accommodation along with breakfast at both Shanghai and Beijing. do you think CNY 500 per day is good enough to carry with me ???

Maria, I think CNY 500 is enough if your accommodation and breakfast are already managed.
