have been together is it's up and down. are we compatable and will this last long?

It may not be so matchful. If you want to have a peaceful relationship, both of you need to learn to think on the other's hand. Try to find the advantages of the other.

I mean that you can consider the other person's feelings and needs, see things from the other's perspective and find merits of the other.
