can we get a z visa for less than a year?

We will be looking to work in China for 4 months can we get a Z that will be cheaper than the full year type?

You mean you want to get a four-month Work Z than a full year?The fee is the same for applying a Work Z and it is also the same to apply a resident permit with any length.
