How do I get to tulou ((hakkas house)) from Xiamen? Do I have to join one day tour?

You can take a direct bus at local Hubinnan Bus Station to Yongding (or Yongding Xiayang or Hukeng, where the Hakka houses are located). Upon getting there, you can take a taxi to reach the tulou exactly.
Generally, it is fine to travel by yourself. If you are accompanied by a Chinese person, it would be best.0
