Why did Qu YUan drown himself?

He once was a high official but exiled by the king of Chu State. After Bai Qi, Qin's general defeted Chu, Qu Yuan drowned himself. He saw his country occupied by Qin but he couldn't do anything. So he drowned himself in the Miluo River.
