About:China Visa Renewal and Extension

Tourist visa after expiration of student visa

Hi, I have a Mauritian passport. I am currently a student in Shanghai, on X type, which will expire shortly. Is it possible that I stay about 1 or 2 months more after the expiration. That is, can i stay on a L type then? I wish to travel around China. Grateful if you would please advise. Thank you. Aki

To be honest, changing X type to a Tourist L is impossible in China, but you are still suggested to go to the local Exit-Entry Adminstration Bureau for consulting directly. They has the final right to decide whether to issue you a new Tourist L.
