It is better to visit on a weekday to avoid the crowds. Take an early ferry to Macao and get back at night. One day is enough to tour the major spots there. Well, the ferry to Macao can be taken at China Ferry Terminal, Kowloon or HK-Macau Ferry Teminal near Sheung Wan and the latter carries ferries for 24h from/to Macao.

Ferry from Hk costs 164HKD for an economy class cabin and 153HKD for the same class cabin for the back trip. The ferry duration is around an hour by the way.
