First trip to China, i need specifics please

I have only been to Dubai, but would love to visit China. I would like to know if the L visa is appropriate or do u just apply for the M as I also intend to buy a few things to sell. And please what other supportings docs do I need for my application not to be refused. Waiting to receive from anyone with answers. Thank you.
