About:Chinese Embassy in India

transit halt at Guangzhou, China

I am planning to travel from Delhi(india) to Melbourne (Australia) by Southern China airlines via Guangzhou CAN China. On my return journey I wish to halt at Guangzhou for 4-5 days. What documentation is required for haselfree halt at Guangzhou. Do I need transit visa. Do I need to apply it in advance or I can get it at Guangzhou airport on arrival.

Since you will stay for 4 to 5 days, you need to apply one. At least, you will have a Transit G for your staying in Guangzhou. You need to apply this type in advance in your own country.
