You will fly to HK from another country and then take a cruise to Australia? You mean you will transfer in HK?
If so, you do not need to have it, since you enjoys a 90-day free entry policy to HK.

Linda is correct-you get a VOA as an Australian (I thought it was 31 days, but its a few years since I was there). If you hold any other passport, best to check , as there some countries that do not enjoy this privilege. (you did not say what passport you hold). If you do not hold an Australian passport, you will need one for the return to Australia--I am not aware of any nationality that does not need one for Australia except Australian.
