i was born in siangcheng, henan. what is that city called now?

As I know, there is Shangcheng County in Xinyang City in that province. Is it what you refer to?

It could be!  The spelling of names has changed so much!  All I know is what my birth certificate said and that was in 1939!  Thanks for your help.

At that time it was Honan, but I've been told that it is now Henan.  I'm not even sure of that!
