Expired Z visa for work permit

Hello - my employer only managed to apply for residence permit 1 week before my Z type expired. Now, that my Z expired do I need to leave China to apply for new one again? In another words, they applied for my residence permit within 30 days of arrival, but I will not get it within 30 days of my arrival. (My passport is with me) I am in Guangzhou. Is this possible?

Apologies for confusio. I sm told that before applying for residence permit, teachers need to apply for foreign expert certificate. Is that correct?

You are right. The Foreign Expert Certificate is needed for applying for a resident permit. The Expert Certificate is applied by your employer, so please do not worry.

You mean your related documents fo applying resident have been collected by your employer, right? If so, you do not need to worry about it. You just need to wait for the reply from your employer. For getting a new work Z, you still need an invitation letter from your employer. So you are suggested to wait and see. If it is necessary to leave China for a new application, your employer will tell you.

Just means you can't leave the country until the process is completed. This is normal, in the past I had to start 3 times over as I needed to travel on urgent business during the process.
