Travel Outside of Shanghai on 72-hour visa

I'm going back to China to take care of some banking issues, so I think the 72-hour free transit is the best option (I'll be coming from Thailand, but I'm an American citizen). When I arrive into Shanghai Pudong Airport, and get my registration at a hotel, can I then travel for the day outside of Shanghai (I need to go to my bank in Haining for a few hours), then come back to Shanghai?

If you enjoys the 72-hour free transit policy, you are not allowed to leave Shanghai to Haining, according to the policy. So you may need to apply a Transit G or a Tourist L for handling your issue in China.
