Carl, it isn't as cold as you thought. The temperature in Beijing is from 10 to 20 degrees Celsius. It's warmer in southern China.

i'll be travelling from Shanghai - Guillin - Xian - Beijing. Is the temperature tolerable w/ thin jacket?

Carl, I think you may bring a thin sweater too except for the thin jacket. I went to Beijing in Mid March before. I remembered that it was cold at that time. I wore wollen coat and a thin sweater inside.
