What to do with luggages

HI, I plan to book a flight from US to PVG to Taiwan, with a ~20hr layover in PVG. I plan to visit my relatives during those 20hrs. Do I have to claim my checked in luggages when arriving at PVG, and check back in when I leave PVG? If so, that seems to be a lot of work. Thanks in advance.

Christer, you needn't claim your luggage if it is connecting air ticket. If they are two different airlines, I am afraid that you need to claim your luggage and recheck it. Anyway, you should contact your airline to confirm how they deal with your luggage. They are more familiar with this issue.
