Do I need my passport renewed (and with proper visa) before traveling to China?

My Canadian passport expires in Mar 5 2015, and I need to be in Beijing Oct 5-14 2014 on business.

Alfred, the embassy requires that the applicant's passport should be valid at least six months. I think you can apply for the M type with your current passport if you apply in September.
